Hey bloggers I now have finished my Narrative on the stolen stars of matariki. It took a lot of time but eventually me and my partner finished. Hope you enjoy!
The stars glimmered in the night sky, a light breeze blew bits of sand into the glistening calm ocean. The darkness was a blindfold. “Slow down!” screamed Lucy in her high pitched voice, Her pink jacket dancing in the wind, while hauling after Jacob in gumboots and a baggy pair of pants. “Catch me if you can!” roared back Jacob while running at the speed of light, his hair as quick as lightning, the pitter patter of his feet running lightly over the sand.
Nana Hine and Papa Charlie were far behind both of these speedy kids. Both wearing the same red band gumboots, the same black and grey jersey, both of them holding the gear to go floundering in hope of catching something for tomorrow night's dinner. Little did they know the adventure that was in store for them.
“Oi come back here!” Shouted Nana Hine, slowly catching up to the two children. “ Sorry nan,” apologised Jacob huffing and puffing “I got carried away,”
Lucy was going to say something, but was as tired as an ox.
“Just wait here you two, Papa Charlie shouldn't be far behind,” She exclaimed. A little while later a bright headlamp turned the corner, Papa Charlie’s gear and outfit was barely visible with his spotlight breaking the darkness. Nana hine dropped all of the gear needed for Papa Charlie's flounder trip, in no time Papa Charlie was in the water searching for tomorrow night's dinner.
“You alright?“ asked Jacob resting on the sand bank “You’re actually quiet for a change,”
“Yeah I’m good,” “It’s just that bright white light shining in the dark, i- is mesmerising you know?”
“What is that?” Jacob asked, ``Wanna check it out?”
“Not really, I don't like that kind of stuff,” Lucy replied.
“Pardon? You’re scared did you say,” Jacob laughed.
“No I'm not, shall we go right now?” Asked lucy.
And before she could turn around, Jacob was already gone investigating the strange light that shined in the night.
Lucy eventually caught up standing to Jacob’s left. It wasn't a light, it was a star caught in the net of a group of…
“Patupaiarehe,” Stated Nana Hine, startling both of the children. “But what are they doing here? Normally patupaiarehe are based in the snowy mountains.” Nana Hine asked. The patupaiarehe were celebrating their recent capture.
“Aue,” snapped Nana Hine.
“That star is Pohutukawa, one star of the Matariki cluster.
“What?!” Asked Lucy,” “We have to get her back up there!”
“I have an idea,” Interrupted Jacob.
The three discussed a plan and then took action.
Jacob and Lucy ran towards the patupaiarehe, waving their hands in the air.
“Hello, my name is Lucy and this is Jacob,” Introduced Lucy.
The Patupaiarehe were really unkind, one of the females started making threats.
“What are you doing here short stuff” She laughed “You and your boyfriend shouldn’t be here,” Nana Hine got really agitated, she grabbed one of the spears and took into action.
“Back off you ugly horse!” Screamed Nana Hine, stabbing one of the Patupaiarehe in the heart, causing the Patupaiarhere to fade into mist. Luckily the sun rose minutes after any others could do something rash.
“Oh no!” Shouted one of the patupaiarehe, “The sun, we must leave or else we shall burn”
The patupaiarehe ran for the forest, sprinting like cheetahs.
“Thank you Nan '' Shouted Lucy “The patupaiarehe are gone, and pohutukawa returned back to where she came from.
In the distance Papa Charlie was seen coming back to his family, walking with a sack full of flounder and a lot of questions.
“So anyways, after the sun came up we saved her and she floated back to the cluster, and Nan went off killing one of them,” Lucy gloated,
“Pakipaki mai you two, I'm sure they were thankful” Papa Charlie thanked sitting outside on his rocking chair, his two Moko’s beside him.
All four took the time to look into the sky, above were the matariki stars twinkling and sparkling saying thank you.
